On 17 June 2026, Castle Point Borough Council (the "Council") formally approved the Draft Open Space Developers Contributions Guidance for publication for consultation between 30th June to 31st July 2026. In accordance with the Council’s Statement of Community Involvement which requires a minimum of four weeks consultation with relevant stakeholders the Draft Open Space Developers Contributions Guidance has been published online, and paper copies for reference are available at the Council Offices, at Waterside Leisure Centre and at all libraries within the Borough.
The Open Space Developers Contributions Guidance will form part of the suite of developer contributions guidance documents that supplement the Developer Contributions Guidance SPD adopted by the Council in March 2023.
The draft Open Space Development Contributions Guidance sets out the Council’s requirements for open space provision associated with new residential development. Its purpose is to provide clarity for developers, landowners and applicants on how open space contributions are calculated and what standards will be required when determining planning applications.
The Open Space Developers Contributions Guidance will ensure that new developments provide appropriate mitigation for its impact on existing open spaces, establish when new public open space provision will be provided to support growth and provide direction on landscaping and design to promote well connected high quality open spaces are planned with long term management and maintenance considerations from the outset.
The consultation will take place from 30th June and end on 31st July. All representations must be received by the Council no later than 23:59 on 31st July. During this time, any person or organisation may make representations.
