Christmas Event 2025

PRESS RELEASE

Festive success at Saturday’s Canvey Island Event

Despite the wet start Canvey Island saw over a thousand people attend the Councils Christmas event in Canvey Island’s town centre on Saturday 29th November 2025. The event started at 12 noon and had an array of free Christmas activities. Families thoroughly enjoyed the Helter Skelter, Santa’s grotto, soft play bus, Gingerbread man decorating, a Chair-o-plane ride and Santa letter writing. The Town Council also introduced a small stage for local singers to add to the ambience of a Christmas market and were extremely impressed by the Local talent, a special thank you to Brianna Louise who did a fantastic job comparing the event talent.

Cllr Sheridan Sayes, Town Mayor of Canvey Island Town Council excitedly switched on the lights at 4:00pm. The Town Mayor commented: “We are really pleased with how the day flowed and seeing the community come together despite the weather just enhanced the aesthetic for a perfect wintery, festive event”.

There was an incredible atmosphere in the town centre, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We extended the road closure again this year in the town centre so that more of the shops would continue to benefit from the event and this really worked well. Thank you to all who contributed including the volunteers who helped with the smooth running of the event”.

The Town Council would like to thank all the very generous sponsors for the event. Stibbards & Sons sponsored this year’s Christmas Tree and Knightswick Shopping Centre sponsored the grotto and gifts. The Town Council would also like to thank GB Vehicles and First Fence for sponsoring and assisting with the events barriers.

The Town Council is proud to have also organised the Christmas tree, motifs on lamp columns in the town centre, icicle lighting on Canvey Island Library and lighting on the columns down Foksville Road.
