Christmas Light Switch on Event, Canvey Island – Saturday 29th November 2025
Canvey Island Town Council is making final preparations for its annual Christmas Event on Saturday 29th November, in the town centre on Furtherwick Road/top of the High Street, Canvey Island. The free entry event will officially start at 12 noon with an assortment of Christmas stalls, funfair, children’s activities, and attractions. The Towns Christmas Tree has been kindly sponsored by Stibbards and Sons and the countdown to the light switch on, will begin at 4:00pm.
This year, the Town Council arranged for a new ride, the Astroslide, which will be situated on the High Street and Santa’s Grotto will be returning, outside the Knightswick Centre. Canvey Island Town Council is happy to have had Santas grotto and gifts kindly sponsored by The Knightswick Centre and Praxis.
There will also be a range of free activities for children including, storytelling, Santa letter writing, a soft play bus and Gingerbread Decorating, which will keep them very busy.
Town Mayor Cllr Sheridan Sayes said: “The Town Council is very excited about this upcoming Christmas Event, and very pleased to yet again be offering so many free activities to families. We look forward to seeing many of you there to get into the festive Christmas spirit and support our local businesses.”
Furtherwick Road from the junction of Foksville Road to Waarden Road will be closed from 7am to 7pm on Saturday, 29th November for public safety to allow businesses that are involved to set up and dismantle equipment and for the duration of the event. A diversion route will be in place during the road closure. First Group will be diverting its buses during the temporary road closure from 7am to 9pm on the day and routes will be published on their website: www.firstgroup.com and at bus stops. Taxis will be available from Lionel Road and from a pickup/drop off point in the Knightswick Shopping Centre. Car parking will be available in the town centre at the Knightswick Shopping Centre, and Oak Road Car Park on the day.
