Christmas Event
Christmas light switch on 2024
PRESS RELEASE
Festive success at Saturday’s Canvey Island Event
Around three thousand people attended the Town Council’s ‘Christmas Light Switch On’ in Canvey Island’s town centre on Saturday 30th November 2024. The event started at 12 noon with lots of free Christmas activities including an ice rink, Santa’s grotto, soft play bus, ‘Christmas Bauble Treasure Hunt’, Gingerbread man decorating, a Mini Wheel and Santa letter writing. The Town Council also introduced a small stage for local singers to add to the ambience of a Christmas market and were extremely impressed by the Canvey community choir, Castleview students and Brianna Louise.
Cllr Peter May, Town Mayor of Canvey Island Town Council switched on the lights at 4:30pm and said: “We are really pleased how well the event went and we were lucky with the weather, which was lovely, perfect for a wintery, festive event.
There was an incredible atmosphere in the town centre, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We extended the road closure again this year in the town centre so that more of the shops would continue to benefit from the event and this really worked well. Thank you to all who contributed including the volunteers who helped with the smooth running of the event”.
The Town Council would like to thank all the very generous sponsors for the event, Hook & Partners and Maynard Heady for sponsoring this year’s Christmas Tree and a huge thank you to Stibbards for their sponsorship of the grotto and for their support on the day. The Town Council would also like to thank the Rotary Club for the support and participation on the day too.
The Town Council organised the Christmas tree, motifs on lamp columns in the town centre, icicle lighting on Canvey Island Library and lighting on the columns down Foksville Road.
