Armed Forces Day Success
Canvey Island saw hundreds of people line the streets of Canvey Island town centre on Saturday 28th June 2025, to once again honour the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Despite the reported heat wave, a parade of veterans and current armed forces, uniformed youth and dignitaries and youth organisations marched through the town centre followed by a service of celebration outside the Paddocks Community Centre where an Armed Forces exhibition of memorabilia was on display in the Feelgood suite.
Town Mayor Cllr Sheridan Sayes said “The event was great. Armed Forces Day gives us a chance to show our support for our Armed Forces. Without these brave men and women we would not be enjoying the freedom we have today, and I am very happy that so many people turned out to support this event and we were lucky to have excellent weather. Thank you to all participants of the parade and to everyone who helped to make the event such a success.”
The Town Council would like to thank all of the groups and individuals who took part both in the parade, service of celebration and exhibition, including past and present armed forces, Canvey Island Royal British Legion, Sutherland Pipes and Drums, Reverend Marion Walford, Canvey Community Choir and other singers, Canvey Community Archive, Coastwatch, Canvey Island Transport Museum, Army Cadets & Military Recruitment, Brook lodge and St Johns Ambulance Service. Thanks to Castle View School and Skanska for once again allowing the Town Council to use their car park, VIP for their support with the parade and rolling road closure.
