PRESS RELEASE

Armed Forces Day Success

Saturday 29th June 2024 Canvey Island saw hundreds of people line the streets of Canvey Island town centre, to once again honour the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. A parade of veterans and current armed forces, uniformed youth and dignitaries, local rescue services and youth organisations marched through the town centre followed by a service of celebration outside the Paddocks Community Centre

Town Mayor Cllr Peter May said “The event went brilliantly. Armed Forces Day gives us a chance to show our support for our Armed Forces. Without these brave men and women, we would not be enjoying the freedom we have today. I am very happy that so many people turned out to support this event and we were lucky to have excellent weather. Thank you to all, who helped make the event such a success.”

The Town Council would like to thank all the groups and individuals who took part both in the parade and service of celebration including past and present armed forces, Canvey Island Royal British Legion, Sutherland Pipes and Drums, Reverend Marion Walford and the ministers of Canvey Island, Canvey Community Choir and other singers, Canvey Island Transport Museum, Army Cadets & Military Recruitment and St Johns Ambulance Service.

Thanks to Castle View School and Skanska for once again allowing the Town Council to use their car park, all the event volunteers for their support with the parade and rolling road closure.
