Local Plan Consultation

At its Cabinet meeting on 23 July, Castle Point Borough Council cabinet members approved the draft Castle Point Plan for public consultation and urged residents to take part and share their views.

The Castle Point Plan sets out a bold, community-led strategy for sustainable growth across the Borough. It reflects the results of extensive engagement with residents and stakeholders and strikes a careful balance between development and environmental protection.

Key highlights of the Castle Point Plan

• Urban first development: With a focus on building within existing built-up areas to preserve the Green Belt and safeguard ecological and heritage sites.
• New homes: Delivery of 6,196 new homes over 17 years, prioritising well-designed, affordable housing. While the housing number falls short of the Government’s target, it is supported by robust evidence and aims to meet real local needs.
• Brownfield regeneration: Emphasis on reusing and regenerating land to improve the quality and amenity of urban areas and protect green spaces.
• Supporting local business: Aligning development with skills, training, and infrastructure to boost prosperity.
• Infrastructure improvements: Town centre investment, active travel options, transport upgrades to support development.
• Environmental protection: The Castle Point Plan prioritises water efficiency, flood resilience and biodiversity enhancements.

Cllr Dave Blackwell Leader of Castle Point Borough Councilsaid:“This is a pivotal moment for Castle Point. The draft Plan reflects our community’s values and priorities, putting local voices at the heart of future development. 

“Above all, the Castle Point Plan reflects what the community has consistently asked for: protecting our wildlife and green spaces, managing growth responsibly and preserving the Borough’s unique identity.

“We’ve listened to residents and stakeholders throughout this process and the Castle Point Plan responds directly to what matters most - protecting our Green Belt, delivering quality housing and creating opportunities for local people.

The consultation will run from Friday 1 August to Friday 26 September 2025.
