KINGS CORONATION COMPETITIONS - WINNERS
The Town Council recently held a series of competitions to celebrate the King’s coronation and encourage residents, schools, businesses and children to get into the coronation spirit.
There were four different categories of competition to enter:
These were then judged by a panel consisting of the Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor. There was a large number of entries in each category and judging proved difficult for the panel due to the high standard.
The judging panel decided to award the best dressed house to Glynis Peck for her brilliant entry which spread across the whole of her house, for this category the prize was a £100.00 Amazon voucher. In the category of Best business display, The Rooms, were successful in winning, with a unique balloon based entry that really impressed the judges, they were awarded a trophy and £250.00 Amazon voucher. In the category of Best school display judging proved very difficult and the panel decided to award two schools with a highly commended certificate, as well as a prize of £500.00 for the winning school. The winning school was Leigh Beck Infant and Nursery Academy, with Canvey Junior School and St. Katherines Church of England Primary School receiving highly commended. Leigh Beck Infant and Nursery Academy were awarded a prize of £500.00 and a trophy. The final category of judging was the children’s design a crown competition, which had the most entries. In this category the winner was Ava Levy, from Canvey Junior School, who was awarded a £100.00 Amazon voucher and commemorative coronation coin. The panel also picked 4 other entries to receive commemorative coins as high commended entries.
Town Mayor Councillor Elaine Harvey said “It was a great pleasure to judge and then present these prizes to the winning entries. The standard of entries was really quite high, and we faced some difficult decisions, however the winners created some really excellent displays to mark the coronation. I would like to thank everyone who entered in all categories, and thank you for supporting the Town Council in celebrating the coronation with the community.”
