Talk to groups about the Digital Switchover

12th December 11

Canvey Island Town Council is offering advice sessions to community groups on Canvey Island about the digital switchover.  The digital switchover will happen on two dates which are the 4th April 2012, when BBC2 is switched over to digital as a practice run and the 18th April 2012, when the other four stations will switch over to digital.

There is a Help Scheme open to anyone over 75 years old, live in a care home, (for over six months), those with disabilities or who are registered blind or partially sighted.

Jess Fisher, Community Warden for the Town Council said "Some people are confused about the changeover especially older people who are not very familiar with technology.  The Help Scheme gives those eligible help to install a freeview box and aearial if needed at a minimum charge or may be free in some cases.  Some people think they need to get a new television when all they need is a freeview box.  It is important that they know what to do before it's too late."

There is no cold calling involved.  People meeting the eligibility criteria through the Help Scheme have recieved packs of information about the digital switchover already and need to reply to confirm if they need support with the digital switchover.  An appointment needs to be made by the individual and the person installing the freeview box will be wearing a uniform and an ID badge.
