Canvey Island Town Council has employed its first Community Warden to help with the service provided to residents. Jess Fisher, the new Community Warden will be patrolling Canvey Island and acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Town Council and other agencies and reporting findings. In addition, Jess will be getting involved in community projects including working with schools and community groups to help promote a community spirit.
Jess served with Essex Police for 30 years including the last 10 years working on Canvey Island as Neighbourhood Beat Officer. Jess is a local resident having lived on Canvey Island since 1980. In her spare time on a voluntary basis, Jess is involved with Canvey Island Senior Citizens Association and Canvey Island Youth Project raising funds including working with young people of ‘Breakthru’.
Joan Liddiard, Chairman of Canvey Island Town Council commented: “The Town Council is really pleased that Jess has been appointed and she will be a great support to the work that Canvey Island Town Council is doing. Jess’s experience and background makes her ideally placed to make a real difference on Canvey Island.”
One of Jess’s first projects will be to visit day centres and explain the new digital change over to older people on the island.
Jess said: “I am looking forward to getting involved in lots of community projects and working with residents, businesses and agencies in partnership to make a Canvey Island a better place to live and work. Jess will work Monday to Friday between 9 am and 2.30pm but hours will vary depending on demand and include weekend patrols around the island.
