ANNUAL TOWN MEETING AND COMMUNITY AWARDS 2024

Canvey Island Town Council held its Annual Town Meeting and awards ceremony on Monday 25th March 2024 and residents had the opportunity to speak to Town Councillors about the Town Council’s activities during the year.

For the Town Council’s Community Awards, nominations were received under the categories of Citizen of the year, Community Group of the year, Best Community Contribution from a Local Business and Youth Community Group of the Year. The Town Council also decided to award special recognition awards to two individuals in the category of Citizen of the Year.

Tony Roche was successful as Citizens of the Year for his work with the St Vincent De Paul foodbank. Community Group of the year was presented to the Home Library Service in recognition for their work with housebound residents and volunteering work. The Best Community Contribution from a Local Business was awarded to the Primary Care Network, for the care they provide to local groups and the older community, and the Youth Community Group of the Year was awarded to the Canvey Island Swimming Club who support many students from the ages of 3 and their staff commitment in their roles.

Special recognition awards were awarded to Cathy Taylor and Cliff and Jackie Larman, who were all nominated in the category of Citizen of the Year, and all give up their own time to improve, assist and contribute to the community.

Town Mayor Councillor Elaine Harvey said “I am very proud to have been able to present these awards to such worthy causes. The Town Council is pleased to be able to recognise the efforts of all these individuals, groups, and businesses. I would like to thank everyone for coming and all your continued support of the Town Council.”
